Mas Madrid y el Pub

Today (after class) we went to Madrid again! We went to the Museo Reina Sofia, which is a modern art museum! And, like el Prado, we get in for FREE with our student ID cards from the University of Alcala de Henares! It was awesome, highlights including Miro, Picasso, and Dali! The painting "Guernica" by Picasso was my favorite. We've learned about it so many times in Spanish classes, and to finally see it?! WOW. I didn't take a photo (don't know if you could) but I'm attaching one from the internet so you can see which one I'm talking about. Then later this evening, my roommate Rachel and I met up with our friends from the intercambio! Our friend's name is Soledad, and we were with her, her husband, and two other of her friends. So they're like middle aged. We were in a little Irish pub. They practiced English, we practiced Spanish. The pub also had a trivia competition going on, and our little team got second place! It was such a fun night and we're glad to have made such great friends.

Madrid

Today after class Rachel, Kjerstie and I went adventuring around Madrid! Including: seeing where they have bull fights, getting bocadillos (sandwiches) from el Museo de Jamon (the ham museum), and indulging in chocolate con porras. See photos!

The past few days

These post few days haven't had enough in each one to get their own post so I'm combining them. On Sunday we went to church and then just had a nice relaxing day at home. Yesterday (Monday) I went to class and then in the evening went to El Prado museum and Noche de Hogar (family home evening) with the young single adults of the ward, at the stake center in Madrid. Today was super great! This evening I went to the intercambio and met an awesome lady named Soledad who my roommate has met before too.  And this evening I went out with the sister missionaries! We taught a lesson to a recent convert, then did street contacting! It was so awesome and I know I'll do it again soon. Not only is it a great opportunity to practice my Spanish conversational skills, but it helps prepare me for my mission this September! Then afterwards tonight I showed my host brother one of the best movies ever, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
The photos are of my favorite little shortcut to the train station and/or the session director's house.

REAL MADRID

Today we went to a REAL MADRID (that's real like 'royal') partido de futbol! And we won! Yes we sat up in the nosebleeds, but it was still super awesome! I learned today that instead of booing when something bad happens, they whistle. As you probably would expect, everyone gets pretty pumped about futbol here. We even witnessed a little brawl in the streets between opposing fans, ha! Afterwards we all went out to dinner, and then we threw a surprise birthday party for one of the girls in our group!  Also everyone in my group was super excited for me for my mission call. I still can't believe it!

Ucles, Cuenca, Ciudad Encantada and MISSION CALL

Today we went to Ucles to a monastery, then to Cuenca (which means eye-socket), a city set on cliffs in a valley, and la Ciudad Encantada, which is some awesome rock formations. I also got my mission call today to ROME!! I can't believe it and I don't think I'll be able to until I get there.

Festival en Madrid

My laptop wouldn't connect to the internet again so I just typed it out and took a pic.

Martes 13

Today was Martes 13, Tuesday the 13th, which is like our Friday the 13th. Our host mom told us this old saying " En martes, ni te cases, ni te embarques, ni de tu casa te apartes." (on Tuesday, don't get married, or leave on a trip, or leave your house). We left home today aaand it turned out fine! We had classes and then this evening we went to the exchange with Spanish speakers. We help them practice their English, they help us practice Spanish. I made a friend named Javier. Afterwards a few of us went walking around Alcalá, perusing shops and stuff.
